APC International Introduces NEW Sensing Material – Soft PZT APC-854

The wait is OVER… 854 is HERE!

In order to even better serve its customers with a more complete line of PZT materials, APC engineers are proud to announce the addition of APC-854 material to its already impressive line of PZT materials!

APC-854 is a new unique material, the properties of which fall conveniently in-between APC-850 and APC-855 material.  Developed to fill the void by enhancing sensitivity while maintaining reasonable use temperature, APC sees this material as an excellent choice for certain sensing applications.  With impressive aging characteristics, APC-854 material could be your new “go-to” material for sensing applications.

Properties:

The primary benefit of the APC-854 material is its high d33 (in the 600+ range) combined with a curie temperature of approximately 250 C.  APC-854 is an excellent go-to material when high sensitivity is required, but when use temperatures do not support the typical Navy VI (APC-855) type composition.  Table 1 illustrates the comparative properties of the 850, 854, and 855 materials.

Aging Characteristics:

APC-854 material is one of the most stable materials in APC’s current lineup. With measured aging of its dielectric constant in the range of (-) 0.40% per decade, capacitive properties degrade a total of only 1.6% in the first 10,000 days (application and environment dependant…of course). Figure 1 illustrates in Log format the aging curve for the dielectric constant in APC-854 Material.

The critically important frequency-aging rate is also incredibly stable, exhibiting only a (+) 0.03% increase per decade and is illustrated in figure 2.

Applications:

Originally utilized for hydrophone applications, APC sees this material being used in many sensing applications where high sensitivity is required, but temperature flexibility beyond the standard Navy VI material (APC-855) is desirable. Vibration sensing, accelerometers, structural monitoring, flow sensing, non-destructive testing, and certain medical applications are all well within the range of applications for the APC-854 material.

APC has material in stock and is ready to discuss your potential application using the APC-854 material. To evaluate the new material for yourself, please contact your APC Technical Sales Representative for samples.
