Piezo Product Usage Series: Ultrasonic Cleaning Transducers

APC International supplies a wide range of standard and custom designed ultrasonic cleaning transducers.  This post provides some additional background information on APC’s standard ultrasonic cleaning transducers (Cat. #90-40XX):

– Typical Drive Voltage: 400 volts peak–peak to 800 volts peak–peak

– Maximum Drive Voltage: ~ 1200 volts peak-peak

– Drive Signal: sine wave or square wave at transducer resonate frequency

The following describes the typical set-up of an ultrasonic cleaning transducer in a cleaning application:

– Metal tank should have a wall thickness of ~ 0.5mm to ~ 3.0mm

– Transducers are typically bonded to the bottom of the tank

– One Transducer is typically bonded per 100 sq. cm of area on the tank bottom

– Appropriate amount of fluid depth: Minimum ~ 4.0 in. & Typically 6.0 in. or more

– Never apply power without fluid in the tank

– Bonding Adhesive: Araldite 2014 is a suggestion; many others will work.

Caution: This information does not consider the transducer impedance (Z) or power (W) required per transducer.

When providing ultrasonic cleaning transducers, APC assumes the buyer has knowledge and experience in the following areas.

– Basic understanding of ultrasonic transducers

– Basic understanding of the electrical requirements

– Basic understanding of safety requirements.

Please contact APC if you do not understand this information or if you are using APC’s ultrasonic cleaning transducers in a non-traditional application.
