Ultrasonic Fluid Level Sensors from APC

Ultrasonic fluid level sensors can be used to monitor fluid levels in a wide variety of commercial and industrial applications. Piezo level sensors work by monitoring the acoustic coupling level between an ultrasonic transmitter and an ultrasonic receiver. When there is liquid between the transmitting transducer and the receiving transducer, acoustic coupling is high. When the fluid level falls and air occupies the signal path, coupling is low and an output signal will be generated to indicate that the fluid level has decreased below the level of the transducers.

Fluid level sensors are keyed to the difference in ultrasound transmission through the liquid being monitored versus ultrasound transmission through air. These piezoelectric sensors can monitor levels of liquids that exhibit a wide range of complexity and viscosity, from water and gasoline to oil and hydraulic fluids.
